Gegenwärtig ist in der Europasoziologie immer deutlicher die Ansicht zu finden, dass gerade der examine dieser „politischen“ oder „europapolitischen Rhetoriken“ verstärkt Aufmerksamkeit zu widmen wäre, es – so Maurizio Bach - notwendig sei, „die Selbstbeschreibungen des herrschenden europäischen structures und deren Mythen sowie Illusionen zum Gegenstand soziologischer Forschung zu erheben“. In dieser Arbeit wird eng an diese Forschung angeknüpft.
