Diese Methode der empirischen Sozialforschung ermöglicht die Erschließung der sinnstrukturierten Welt von Personen, basierend auf der Bedeutung verschriftlichter „Ausdrucksgestalten“ (Oevermann 1990: 7). Der Praktiker objektiver Hermeneutik analysiert rein rekonstruktionslogisch. Die theoretischen Grundlagen dieses Ansatzes sind den Ausführungen von Ulrich Oevermann zur klinischen Soziologie entnommen, welche die konkrete Funktion des Soziologen in der Praxis behandelt (Oevermann 1990: 1). Mit dem medizinischen Begriff ‚klinisch’ kennzeichnet er ein bestimmtes challenge des Klienten, das erst durch die praktische Intervention des soziologischen Beraters explizit thematisiert und gelöst werden kann. Dabei ist unbedeutend, ob einzelne Personen, ganze Gruppen oder Organisationen als Auslöser für das challenge in Frage kommen. Wichtig bleibt die Anwendung einer spezifisch einzelfallbezogenen Methodik, in welcher sowohl die beteiligten Personen und ihre Interaktionen als auch alle Handlungen und Äußerungen für die examine berücksichtigt und protokolliert werden. Die Handlungs- und Kommunikationsstrukturen der Personen sind aufgrund ihrer spezifischen Intentionalität sowie der zeitlichen, räumlichen und sozialen Abhängigkeit einzigartig, wodurch nicht nur eine standardisierte Methodik ausgeschlossen wird, sondern vielmehr jedes Verhältnis von Klientensystem1 und Berater einmalig bleibt. Das heißt in der klinischen Soziologie handelt der Berater challenge- aber nicht personenspezifisch (vgl. Dewe/Radtke 1989). Bevor jedoch die Beschreibung eines spezifischen Beispiels für die Praxis folgt, müssen die theoretischen Überlegungen über die Voraussetzungen sowie den Vollzug einer erfolgreichen examine und anschließenden Intervention durch den Berater dargestellt werden.
